Red Velvet Cupcakes from Home Cafe QVB

I have been eyeing off my Twitter friend’s Red Velvet Cupcakes every time I see him post photos of them on Twitter and Instagram. They looked so delicious and many people had raved how good they were.

To my absolute delight, Rafael De Leon announced that his Red Velvet Cupcakes will be on sale every Monday and Tuesday at Home Cafe in the Queen Victoria Building, Sydney. I was so excited, that I dragged my friend down there at lunch time, so we could try them for ourselves.

I ended up buying two Red Velvet Cupcakes, and my friend bought one.

When we got back to work, I ate my Red Velvet Cupcake straight away. The Red Velvet Cupcake was amazing, from the first bite into the creamy icing to the rich moist cupcake, I was very impressed. Rafael’s Red Velvet Cupcake were honestly, the best Red Velvet Cupcake I had ever eaten. The  great thing was, Rafael’s Red Velvet Cupcakes were not sickly sweet or dry textured like some other Red Velvet Cupcake that I had previously tried from some well known cupcake shops.

I think the Sydney CBD finally has a place where you can buy exceptional Red Velvet Cupcakes. (cheers to that). So-Say goodbye to the bland dry Red Velvet Cupcake and hello to the best Red Velvet Cupcake in the Sydney CBD.

Malteaser Chocolate Tart and other delicious goodies from The Milk Bar by Cafe Ish

When I read on Twitter that my favourite cafe, Cafe Ish in Surry Hills was closing, I was quite devasted. I felt so disappointed that I would not be able to eat my favourite dessert, the Chocolate Truffle Wattleseed cake ever again.

Luckily, shortly after on Twitter, Joshua who co-owns Cafe Ish announced that he was going to open up a milk bar in Redfern. I was so relieved and so excited.

The Milk Bar by Cafe Ish is located on Regent Street, and is quite close to Redfern Station. D and I managed to find parking in a nearby street.

When we finally found The Milk Bar by Cafe Ish, we were quite impressed. The new milk bar looked great, and unlike their previous cafe, Cafe Ish, The Milk Bar by Cafe Ish looked so spacious and bright.

As soon as D and I were allocated a table, D immediately went to check out the Pac Man arcade machine and I went to check the variety of desserts on display. (we do have our priorities).

I was so excited when I spotted the Malteaser Chocolate Tart that Joshua had mentioned on Twitter in the display cabinet. The Malteaser Chocolate Tart looked divine. I had to have one, so of course I ordered one to eat later.

Whilst at The Milk Bar by Cafe Ish, we of course ordered actual food. I ordered Ai’s Freakin Awesome Chicken Wings, a side serving of chips, a Bounty Milkshake and Hubby ordered the Super Choc Milkshake and a cheeseburger.

The milkshakes were both so delicious. The Milk Bar by Cafe Ish, uses proper good quality milk. I could definitely tell the difference, because I did not get sick from drinking the milkshake. (I am slightly allergic to certain brands of milk). I liked my Bounty Milkshake more, because it had all things coconut in my milkshake. The servings of the milkshakes were enormous. I got my milkshake to take away, and I was still sipping it ages after.

Ai’s Freakin Awesome Chicken Wings, a side serving of chips, and the cheeseburger, were all absolutely delicious.

Of course, being the dessert addict that I am, the main star of my whole visit, was the Malteaser Chocolate Tart. I ended up getting the Malteaser Chocolate Tart take away, because I was  too full after lunch.

I managed to avoid eating the tart for many hours (yes I must be unwell), and I told Hubby that I would eat the tart for dessert after dinner. But alas, I could not resist, so I cheated and ate the Malteaser Chocolate Tart before dinner.

The Malteaser Chocolate Tart was in one word “Unbelievable”. I was in chocolate heaven eating the Malteaser Chocolate Tart. The chocolate mousse like filling was so creamy, smooth and delicious, that it melted in my mouth. The tart casing on the bottom of the Malteaser Chocolate Tart was not too thick and tasted buttery and amazing.  I think I was officially in love!

I got so excited, that I tweeted to Joshua co-owner of The Milk Bar By Cafe Ish, that his Malteaser Chocolate Tart, was my new favourite dessert.

I cannot wait to go back to The Milk Bar By Cafe Ish to get another Malteaser Chocolate Tart fix. I also cannot wait to try the other delicious looking desserts that I saw in their display.

Macarons from Poff

One day on Instagram, my Twitter friend posted a photo of these macarons that she bought from Poff. The macarons looked quite delicious. I was instantly intrigued and quite curious to why the macarons only costed $1 each. It almost sounded too good to be true, and I must confess, I kind of had a laugh at their shop name.

So, despite my reservations I decided I would visit the place myself to try a macaron or two.

Poff is located inside Citisuper Asian supermarket.

Eventually I made my way to the macarons. They definitely looked quite delicious and there seemed to be a wide variety of macarons to choose from. There were flavours such as peanut butter and jelly, green tea, mango, strawberry, salted caramel, vanilla, blueberry, chocolate and many others.

I think my eyes popped out when I saw the from $1 sign for the macarons. I could not believe that Poff only charges $1 for their macarons. It seemed almost too good to be true. Sure, the macarons are a tad smaller, but even if you bought two, it is still cheaper than most places selling macarons.

There were so many macarons, that I found it so hard to choose which ones to buy. The man working there told me his favourite one was the strawberry macaron. I decided at that point that I would buy 2 strawberry and 2 salted caramel macarons.

After I left Poff, I then wandered outside onto George Street and tried the strawberry macaron. From the first bite, I was so impressed with at how tasty the strawberry macaron tasted. The macaron tasted fresh and had real strawberry flavours. The shell was crispy and not too sweet. Since the strawberry macaron tasted so good, I decided that I must try the salted caramel macaron. The salted caramel macaron was just as delicious. The caramel was a tad bittersweet and you could taste the hint of saltyness.

So, yes, I of course went back shortly after and bought ten more. How could I resist?

When I went back to Poff, I bought 10 more macarons. I told the man working there that I was so impressed with the macarons. The man working there told me how they make their macarons from scratch using real fresh ingredients. He told me they usually have up to 30 different flavours! I even saw the staff member there making the macarons the traditonal way.

Overall I was quite impressed with Poff’s macarons. With so many places making over priced and bland macarons these days, it is always hard to find a macaron that taste good. Poff’s macarons were actually really good, they tasted delicious and fresh. Poff macarons are definitely on my top 5 favourite macaron list. And honestly, who could complain when they only cost $1 each.

Note: My friend who does not have a sweet tooth, said the peanut butter and jelly macaron was “OMG, awesome!!!”

WOWCOW

Hubby and I stumbled upon WOWCOW in Parramatta, when we were driving around like maniacs trying to find parking. Hubby suggested that we try this place after dinner. I was uncertain how I would feel about this place, because I am not a fan of yogurt.

After dinner, Hubby and I wandered over. The place was quite packed and it took what seemed like forever to get served. My eyes were immediately drawn to  the cool decor. I really liked the idea of the grass like ceiling and the huge cow.

The menu seemed huge and the choices seemed overwhelming, and we did not where to start.

The frozen yogurt comes in several different sizes. You can then choose which type of yogurt you want (chocolate, original or coconut) and then choose a topping. So many choices, decisions..decisions..

The easiest part was choosing which type of frozen yogurt we wanted, but trying to choose which toppings was hard. There were so many choices of toppings, that Hubby opted for simply M&Ms.

I decided to try their churros and chocolate. I wanted to compare it to San Churro’s version.

Finally our orders arrived. We were so surprised at the size of our desserts. Hubby’s small serving of frozen yogurt was huge and so was my small serving of churros and chocolate. We did not know if we could eat it all.

The frozen yogurt was so creamy and delicious. It did not taste like yogurt, it tasted more like soft serve ice cream. The frozen yogurt also did not taste too sweet. Hubby loved it.

The churros and chocolate was a huge serving, containing 5 very long churros sticks and sauce. This serving was big enough for two people. At that moment, I wished I had gone for the kid’s size. The churros were quite nice, although a few were a slightly burnt.  The churros were lightly dusted in cinnamon sugar and we were quite light to eat. The chocolate sauce was very delicious and moreish.

Hubby and I definitely want to come back to try their frozen yogurt again. I really want to try the coconut frozen yogurt. We were overly impressed. I even thought their churros were on par with San Churro’s churros.
